Czech H2GP Final – Full Results
May 30th 2023 (OSTRAVA, Czech Republic): Czech Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP) teams raced toward a greener future today – putting their renewable energy engineering skills to the test against competitors from across the Czech Republic in the country’s H2GP Final. Over 4 hours and almost 1000 laps, the winners from ‘HC Verva Racing Team’ were able to edge out a victory against team ‘Pink Hawk’ – and will now get the chance to pit their skills against the best teams globally at the Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix World Final, held in Las Vegas from September 11-14th 2023.
‘We’re overjoyed’, said Otakar Klika of the winning team. ‘We can’t believe we’re going to Las Vegas. We’re from a small town in Czech Republic, we’ve never left the country, all our hard work has paid off and we’re going to America. It’s like a dream come true’.
The 18 teams who took part made use of an array of disciplines – such as data science, electrical engineering and hydrogen chemistry – in a bid to determine who was best able to apply the knowledge they learned over the six-month H2GP program to a real-world, hands-on application.
While ‘HC Verva Racing Team’ placed first in the Endurance Category – completing the greatest number of laps over 4 hours – awards for second and third place were given to team ‘Pink Hawk’ and ‘Werk Team 1’ respectively.
The Design Award went to ‘ISSA Brno Hydrocar’, who demonstrated exceptional creativity and ingenuity in creating the most visually appealing car body.
The Energy Award – presented to the team who used the least amount of energy while completing the most laps – went to ‘HC Verva Racing Team’.
‘Werk Team 1’ took home the Innovation Award, awarded to the team that used the most advanced modifications and innovative features in their car.
The Presentation Award was won by ‘HC Verva Racing Team’, who gave the best oral presentation to the judges explaining how they built their hydrogen-powered car.
‘HC Verva Racing Team’ and ‘Pink Hawk’ will now spend the summer prepping their winning car for the Las Vegas H2GP World Final – where even more advanced engineering, teamwork, creativity and innovation skills will be required to claim victory.
The 2023 Czech Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix season was possible thanks to the continued support of Moravia Steel, ORLEN Unipetrol Foundation, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech, Clean Planet Foundation, and the Sustainability Council in bringing renewable energy education to students across the Czech Republic.
